Question #2:
Sneakers that are NOT Made In China ...request please?
I would like to buy a pair of sneakers or athletic shoes that are not made in China. Due to lack of shopping in my area I buy most of my stuff on the internet. The downside of course, I can't check the label to check where items are made. :/Like a lot of people my whole family is now looking for alternatives to Made In China. Anyone who keeps up with the news is aware of the safety concerns with recalls on everything from toys to pet food to toothpaste. Then there are obvious quality issues. Toaster ovens used to last 10 years when they were made in the USA, now they are all junk and last maybe10 months if you're lucky. (Just one example of hundreds I could name.)
Then there are serious human rights issues to consider, i.e. working conditions and pay in China. Last but not least I wish to suppport US manufacturing. Yes, I know this will mean paying more and if you ask the average person they are more than willing to do so for quality and peace of mind.
USA first, then North America, then overseas anywhere but China.
So, my question! Anyone who has purchased a pair of sneakers lately that is not Made In China, please share! :) You can check the label in the shoe or on the box if you still have it.
Thank you much! :)
P.S. I have found that some New Balance sneakers are still USA-made but you have to be careful as they may say 'USA of imported materials'. Also I'm looking for slip-on's right now, not the kind with laces, and I don't think NB makes anything like that.
Thank you everyone who took the time to give an intelligent and helpful response!
Question #3:
Help me analyze this weird dream?
I've got this dream that I had roughly two years ago, and it's really been bugging me ever since. Despite not being a nightmare, it was extremely vivid, and I feel like it has to mean something, but I haven't a clue what it means. I tried searching up its aspects on a dream dictionary, but nothing adds up. I'd appreciate it if someone attempted to give me an analysis... thanks! Here's the dream:
It starts in a large, ordinary house that's not quite a mansion, but still a pretty big house. About 10 or so Chinese-American families, including mines, are in the house having a potluck/party. The adults are all downstairs in the kitchen, playing poker and chatting and whatnot, and all us kids (roughly ages 8-13) are upstairs at the foot of the stairs leading up to the attic.
Now, the stairs leading up to the attic are extremely dark and rickety. They're spiral metal stairs that kind of fade into darkness at the top. In other words, very creepy. So all the kids start daring each other to go up the stairs, touch the attic door, and come back down.
Nothing happens for a while, until someone dares me to go. I'm the tenth person to go, and as I start up the stairs, somehow I just knew that after the tenth person when up and down these stairs, the giant evil butterflies would attack. I don't know how I knew, but I just knew all of a sudden.
Nothing happens on my way up the stairs. I touch the door to the attic with no problems. As I walk down the stairs, however, I hear someone walking down right behind me. Remember, these stairs are very loud and rickety, so the second set of footsteps runs clear. I turn around, and I see a walking towel following me. It's just an ordinary white bath towel, like the kind you get at hotels. It's folded in a way that makes it look like it's got two legs, and it's just walking down the steps behind me.
I continue down the steps, and I reach the bottom. By now, the towel has disappeared, but I didn't actually realize this until after the dream. Once I reached the bottom of the stairs and the group of kids there, however, a loud racket, like people moving around, sounds from the attic above us. At this moment, all of us kids somehow know that the giant evil butterflies are coming.
We run downstairs to the adults and tell them of this news. A few moments later, footsteps are coming down the stairs (not the spiral ones from the attic, but the modern stairs connecting the first and second floors of the house). Everybody, adults and kids, turn and see giant evil butterflies walking down the stairs.
These butterflies are all about six feet tall, with big yellow wings and black bodies. They've got legs, too, with white sneakers. So they're walking down the stairs now, and everyone knows they're going to attack.
Everyone rushes out of the door, into the parking lot (I'm not sure why there was a parking lot in front of a house, but whatever). We all rush into the nearest car and drive off as quick as possible away from the evil butterflies. However, in the mad scramble, I'm left behind in the parking lot, and the butterflies are advancing upon me. They corner me against a random empty car and loom over me looking very evil and whatnot.... And then the dream stops.
---------------------------------------------
...So yeah, like I said, very random dream. So... can someone try to make sense of it at all? ^_^;
P.S. If you're going to say something like 'It's got no meaning, quit thinking it does' or something along those lines, don't answer. Chances are it probably does mean nothing, and I'm just overthinking it, but I'd still like to think it means something. Since this dream, I've seen yellow butterflies in a whole new light. It means a great deal to me.

Question #8:
Need constructive criticism on creative writing?
Just to be clear, I'm not one of those teens who is trying to write a novel and whatever like that. I'm on a creative writing team, and last week the prompt was to write something that described a picture, and the picture was pretty much this Click Here with a man in a red shirt leaning over it.Robert leaned over the smooth black marble, watching the reflection of himself silently mimic him. He ran his finger down the side, feeling the engravings, savoring the autumn sun on his back. His sneakers squeaked ever so slightly as he made his way around the monument. June, July, August 1963-there it was.
As Robert began to read the names, he felt the familiar prickle of recognition on the back of his neck. This had been his English teacher, this had been his neighbor. The strains of Bob Dylan's 'Blowin' in the Wind' seemed to drift across the courtyard as he found his father's name once again, having retraced the steps he took as a boy of just 12, only six months after his father had been killed. That was twenty years ago, and this was his first time here since. He still remembered the fearhe had felt at first hearing the news, the confusion, the anger. Those had passed, as all things do, but now he felt a sense of sorrow, of respect, for things gone by,
I'll admit that it's not my best work (nowhere near), but it's the most recent one and the only one I have on hand. I think the wording got a bit awkward at times, but we had to do it without any dialogue, so. What do you think I need to improve on?

Question #10:
So, what political party did this guy belong to?
Man charged with threatening Wash. senatorSen. Patty Murray was target of menacing calls over health bill vote
By Pete Williams
Justice correspondent
NBC News
updated 4:22 p.m. CT, Tues., April 6, 2010
Federal prosecutors have charged a Washington state man, Charles Alan Wilson, with repeatedly making threatening calls to Sen. Patty Murray's Seattle office, threatening to kill her because of her support for the health care bill.
FBI agents say they arrested Wilson after getting telephone records and calling him to confirm that his voice matched the one left on voicemail in Sen. Murray's office.
The investigation began in late March, after the health care bill was passed, when a staff member notified the FBI that a man who'd been calling the Seattle office for months, leaving messages after hours, had begun making overt threats to kill her.
In one message, according to court documents, he said, "I hope you realize, there's a target on your back now. There are many people out there who want you dead. ... Kill the ----ing senator. I'll donate the lead." In another, he describes himself as "a senior citizen on Social Security and Medicare" and says, "I want to thank you so much, very, very much, for signing my death warrant."
FBI agents checked the office phone records against the times the voicemails were received, leading to Wilson's number in Selah, Washington. As an additional check, an agent posing as a volunteer from a fictitious group opposed to the bill, Patients United Now, called Wilson on April 1 and talked to him for 14 minutes. He said he "hated" the new law and that he had repeatedly called Sen. Murray's office to complain, referring to her with a phrase, "sneaker shoes Murray," also often used on the voicemails.
The FBI also determined that Wilson, 64, has a handgun registered to him and a valid concealed weapons permit.
He has been charged with threatening a federal official, a felony carrying a maximum penalty of ten years in prison.
In a statement Tuesday, Murray said that her office first notified the Capitol Police Department about the calls and was then instructed to alert local FBI authorities. "As this is an ongoing FBI investigation, Senator Murray or her office will not make any additional comments," the statement said.
Several lawmakers have reported receiving threatening telephone calls in the wake of the legislation's passage. At least four offices of Democratic lawmakers were vandalized, and some officials were granted access to increased security as a result of the threats.
Both Republicans and Democrats have been the targets of violent threats. A man who had used a Web video to announce his intention to kill Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., was arrested on March 29. Cantor, a top House Republican leader, opposed the health care bill.

what do you think of slavery in 2010?
WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ABOUT THIS ARTICLE?Bitter Harvest
Slavery isn't history - and we're reaping its fruit

By Kimberly French
You, in all likelihood, own items that were produced by slaves:
Chocolate. Hand-woven carpets. Cotton. Coffee. Tea. Tobacco. Sugar. Tomatoes. Cucumbers. Oranges. Grains. Clothing. Sneakers. Soccer balls. Gold. Diamonds. Jewelry. Fireworks. Steel. Glassware. Charcoal. Timber. Stone. Tantalum (a mineral used in laptops, pagers, personal digital assistants, and cell phones). Products in all of these industries have been found made with slave labor, then sold in the global market.

More items that you consume every day are tainted by slavery in less direct ways. “Your computer terminal may be made in Japan, but that company may reward executives with sex tours of enslaved prostitutes in Southeast Asia,” says Barney Freiberg-Dale, founder of Unitarian Universalists Against Slavery, one of several Unitarian Universalist groups working to fight modern slavery.
All of us who are lucky enough to be housed, clothed, and fed every day benefit from prices kept low by slave labor. Global companies we invest in, or whose stocks are part of our mutual or pension funds, provide higher returns because they buy from suppliers that pay workers very little—or not at all.
As participants in the world's largest consumer economy, with its drive for lower and lower prices, we contribute to the global economic pressure for slave labor. We are all complicit.
But didn't slavery end in the nineteenth century?
Many of today's new abolitionists admit to having held that same assumption, until a news story or pamphlet or lecture shocked them out of it.
Or you may have thought the reports of human trafficking that periodically make the news—such as sex slavery rings or forced migrant farm work—were isolated cases, somewhere far from you. I did.
The truth is that slavery exists in virtually every country of the world and in almost every U.S. state, according to human rights organizations, scholars, government agencies, and journalists. A growing antislavery movement has been hard at work documenting and exposing this troubling fact. Surveying their reports and interviewing antislavery spokespeople is eye-opening, answering not only my question about the nineteenth-century “end” of slavery but raising other questions as well.
In fact, legal slavery did end. Slavery is illegal in every country of the world. Nonetheless there are more slaves today than ever before: 27 million, twice as many as the number of Africans enslaved during the four centuries of the transatlantic slave trade, according to a calculation that slavery expert Kevin Bales calls conservative. Bales, a sociologist at Roehampton University in London who spoke at the UUA's 2003 General Assembly, estimates that 50,000 people are forced to work as slaves in the United States today.
How can this be? If slavery is illegal everywhere, how can there be slaves, and in such numbers?
In the United States our image of slavery is defined by our own horrific history. The antebellum slavery that was practiced here is called chattel slavery, meaning one person is owned completely by another and can be inherited as property.
Today's slavery is different. Simply put, slavery is one person forcing another to work without pay, using the threat of violence or psychological manipulation. Ownership no longer defines slavery.
When slaves could be legally owned, when buying slaves required a substantial financial investment, there was an incentive for owners to take care of their “property
Question #12:
What category would you guys put me under?
LOL, I dunno, I'm bored I guess and was curious. I can't ask my BFFs or sorta close-friends 'cause they'll just say, "You're cool!" or if I ask a guy friend, he'll say, "You're a good friend." Actually . . . one of guy friend's would probably just say, "Heck if I know." XD So I decided to ask you guys, complete and random strangers.Hmmm . . . I'm Vietnamese, and have layered brown hair. For some dumb reason, people think it's dyed because it sorta gives off this reddish color when in the sun. No, it's not dyed. So yeah, it's brown. The longest it is is about 2 inches shorter from my elbow. My eyes are brown too, a dark shade at that.
I like poking people 'cause it's fun to see people's reactions. I guess I'm also the comforter for some reason. Like if someone's feeling down or depressed, they come to me so I can cheer them up. Even in the we're-gonna-die moments. For example, remember the SoCal tornado? We live in SoCal and the tornado was pretty close to us. So we were in PE watching the news.
Friend: OMG, WE ARE SOOO GONNA DIE!
Me: *wide eyed* WE'RE ON TV! AWESOME!
Friend: HEY! We're on the news BECAUSE we're gonna die!
Me: DOESN'T MATTER! I'm gonna die knowing that Orange County was important enough to be on the news.
Friend: WTF? WE WOULDN'T BE ON THE NEWS IN FIRST PLACE IF WE WEREN'T GONNa DIE!
Me: But think about it! When has OC ever been on the news? Never! It's been LA this and Anaheim that. But HA! OC MADE IT! YESH!
Friend: . . .
Me: WE"RE ON THE NEWS! WE'RE ON THE NEWS! WE'RE ON THE NEWS!
Haha, the conversation went something like that. But it took most people's mind off of the fact that there was a tornado. (Hey, SoCal rarely gets tornadoes so give us a break) I'm really friendly I guess. I got lotsa friends if one of them ever backstabs me, but thankfully, none have yet. Most people know me, even if I haven't spoken a word to them before.
I get a 4.0 GPA, and usually all A(s) on tests. I'm in advanced english, but pre-algebra. I'm a seventh grader.
I shop at JC Penny (it's cause my lil sis does so I just buy whatever), Gap (not the kiddie side), Old Navy, Aeropostle (something like that, forgot how to spell it), and some random little stores.
What I usually wear is a cami w/ mini jacket thing, or t-shirt, or on rare occasions, blouses, but I usually pair all of those with skinny jeans. Ummm, I wear earrings, but not the big, dangly ones. Yeah they're still dangly but they're not like WOAH that's big like most girls wear. For shoes, I just go with either sneakers, flats, boots, or mary janes (or whatever they're called . . . ew, not the one with the heels though).
I got a myspace, facebook, yahoo, gmail, gaia, twitter, youtube, and aim. I don't go on myspace or facebook 24/7.
I read alot. I read Twilight, The Clique Novels, Septimus Heap, Harry Potter, House of Night, Vampire Academy, The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Heap (kinda boring though), Eragon, Eldest, Brisinger, Inksheart, Inkspell, Inkdeath, I'd Tell You I'd love You But Then I'd Have to Kill You (and the 2 books following that) and more.
I listen to Kelly Clarkson, Paramore, Taylore Swift, Skye Sweetnam (sometimes), Perfume, Shinee, Clique 5, Down (by jay sean), Mary Sarah, Justin Bieber (shut up, he's not gay), and stuff like that.
Errr, I dunno, what category would you guys put me under? Haha, I don't really care what you guys think, I've never met you so there'll be no awkward moments.
Ohhh yea, I read manga too. Forgot to mention that. Stuff like Vampire Knight, Mamotte Lollipop, Madotte Mamotte Lollipop, Shugo Chara, Fruits Basket, Kamichama Karin, Skip Beat, Gakuen Alice, Wo Sagashit Full Moon, Kitchen Princess, Arisa, etc
XD Dude, apparently getting good grades affect you. I'm sorry I'm not getting a C in every class :) But LOL, don't worry, I'm not like, a study-addict. It's called, "last minute studying when you found out there was a benchmark tomorrow"

What is you think illegals walking to Washingtion demanding free college education?
TREASURE COAST — Manuel Guerra Casas may soon be deported. The 26-year-old from Indiantown has been forced to withdraw from Kaplan University and was denied scholarships at a seminary. And if pending court proceedings don’t go his way — he’ll also be heading back to Mexico.
So Guerra Casas plans to start walking to Washington D.C.
On Jan. 1, four young people will lace up their sneakers and head north from Miami toward the nation’s capital along U.S. 1. The group hopes that each step will bring more attention to the fact that thousands of undocumented individuals, many who have lived in the U.S. since they were small children, are barred each year from continuing their education in the U.S.
Guerra Casas, also one of the organizers, plans to walk with them from Hobe Sound to Fort Pierce.
“The purpose of all this is to let the American people, Congress and the president know that we are no longer afraid of being undocumented — that we are going to show who we are,” he said. “We are coming out of the shadows.”

Question #20:
this week on raw from hershey pa??
Detailed Live Report From Monday's RawWritten by Eric J. Calcara on Nov 26, 2009 - 10:28:18 AM
Wrestling News World reader Eric J. Calcara sent in the following report:
Well, I just got back from RAW in Hershey. What a perfect birthday present this was to myself! Despite what others may have thought of the crowd/show, I had the time of my life. Sitting front row by the entrance ramp (Seat Number 6) was so awesome, I can't describe. I spent about 90% of my time standing at the railing, which was right in front of me, getting a full view (and earshot) of everything. The security guys were really nice, and actually moved their chairs several times to make room for the front row "sitters" to become "standers". I saw myself on LIVE TV on the Titantron several times, and other people told me that I was on TV even more times than I realized. I was standing next to a young boy (maybe 8 years old) on my left side. I was directly behind the steps where the Undertaker turns on the lights (when he's there, of course). I was wearing my CM Punk shirt. Does anybody remember seeing me?
Regal/Yoshi was the dark match at 7:30, with Yoshi winning. Then there was the Superstars opening, followed by one match (Miz vs. ??? - I can't remember). Then the RAW opening, and we were LIVE on the air!
The surrounding audience members were really good about allowing each other to boo/cheer whoever they wanted. People on both sides of me (including the kid) usually booed/cheered the opposite wrestlers that I did, but it was all in good fun, and we talked to each other too (having a great time).
I slapped hands with Lawler when he came out before RAW. I touched Kofi on the right shoulder/arm during his first entrance. This should have been on TV. Finlay was thrown right in front of my feet by Sheamus. I was told that I didn't appear on camera, but I bet my sneakers did. The security guys moved their chairs and told us to sit down about 5 minutes before the spot because they knew it was going to happen.
Orton was very close to me several times throughout the night. I gave him the finger when I saw that he was making eye contact with me, but he didn't acknowledge it. Something tells me that he is probably used to it.
When my hero CM Punk came out, I was immediately clapping my hands for him high above my head. When he stopped on the ramp to give grief to a couple of kids, he saw me clapping and giving him two thumbs up. There was a noticable CM Punk chant during his promo and his match from some guys behind me. But Cena was also very over, including with the kid next to me.
I kept cheering CM Punk during his promo, and I think I finally pissed him off, because he wanted to be booed. When he left the ring by the "Undertaker's steps" I proceeded to scream at him "You Rule" and "You're Number 1". As the cameras stopped rolling for commercial, he looked right into my eyes, looking very pissed off, and said "Shut Up" to me really loud. To me, that was an honor. I continued screaming "You Rule" and "You're Number 1". I think Punk was pissed that I was doing this LIVE from the front row when he was supposed to be a heel on TV. Anyway, there is nothing that he can do to make me boo him. But I'll never forget his "Shut Up" to me. I have never gotten a wrestler's attention like that before. He said it almost as if Vince would be pissed at him for not being able to convert a fan from cheering to booing him. Oh, well. I love you, PUNK!!!!!! (Even though I guess I didn't make your job any easier.)
Cena looked directly at me after his match when he exited the ring. I was giving him a big thumbs down for having defeated Punk. He just laughed at me. People on either side of me were strongly supporting Cena, but we just laughed together during the commercials. Very nice people.
I tried to get R-Truth's attention later in the night by booing him and screaming "You Suck" but he never made eye contact.
I also cheered Batista. Many people did! We kept telling him that he was "the man" when he walked by the "Undertaker's steps." I actually gave a thumbs down to Kane because I love Batista.
We knew when DX and Kane were coming out, because the ring crew set up the ring posts with their respective pyro. DX was insanely over!
Vince McMahon was just inches away from me when he left after commentating, but he doesn't acknowledge the fans, other than with a smirk to himself. We were all cheering and bowing to him. I didn't get to hear how he and Jesse came across on commentary, obviously. I'll have to check out the tape later.
The crowd loved Jesse, even after his heel turn. When he passed by us upon leaving the ring, he was saying "I'm still a villian afterall." We just cheered him, and screamed "You're the man."
After the cameras stopped rolling, Orton, Rhodes, and Dibiase came out to attack Cena on the broken table. Then DX came out to assist Cena. Rhodes and Dibiase abandoned Orton in the ring. Shawn, HHH, and Cena
I found that on wrestlingnewsworld.com and I found it to be great to read. punk telling him to shut up was hilarious.
